On-demand scaling for self-hosted Bitbucket Pipelines runners

If your self-hosted Bitbucket Pipelines runners run on Kubernetes, they no longer have to sit idle waiting for the next build. We now offer runners that scale up automatically when a pipeline starts and scale back down once it’s done, instead of a fixed number running around the clock.

What changed

Self-hosted runners are provisioned on demand based on how busy your existing runners are, up to a configurable maximum. One runner always stays online so a build never has to wait for cold-start capacity, but you’re no longer paying for idle runners the rest of the time.

What you need to do

Nothing changes on your side: your bitbucket-pipelines.yml keeps working as-is. If you’re currently running fixed self-hosted runners and want to move to on-demand scaling, reach out to your Skyscrapers contact.
