Unusual AWS spend now lands in your Slack

Cost surprises used to show up at invoice time, weeks after the fact. We’ve turned on AWS Cost Anomaly Detection for your account, so when a service starts costing meaningfully more than expected, you hear about it the same day instead.

What changed

AWS Cost Anomaly Detection is a free, ML-based feature that learns your normal spend pattern and flags real deviations from it. It’s built into AWS, but ships no way to actually notify anyone. We’ve wired it up to deliver straight to Slack, so the signal reaches you instead of sitting in the AWS console.

How it works

We watch for anomalies across your whole account and alert when the impact crosses $100. That’s a floor on the actual dollar impact of the deviation, not a percentage, so a small service jumping 10x won’t page you, but a real spend swing will. Alerts land in your existing Slack channel within minutes, and in a central channel on our side too, so both of us catch it at the same time.

What you need to do

Nothing, it’s already active. A freshly enabled monitor needs about ten days of spend history before its predictions are reliable, so don’t be surprised if the first week or two stays quiet.
